hi every one,i know that DTS audio causes a lot of confusion in converting video to DVD so it came to my mind to build the DVD with no audio then add the dts audio and complete the process,i really enjoy dts audio unlike ac3 so at any cost i will not sacrifice dts streams, recently i'm using convertxdvd and every thing is fine but, after using TMPGEnc and AVStoDVD i found that both tools are more powerful than convertxdvd in video encoding .unfortunately they both don't support dts format ,so i decided to separate audio and video streams from the source file then encode the resulting video file in AVStoDVD and build a DVD folder with no audio, afterwards i tried to add the dts audio to that DVD folder before burning , the question is: is that possible or there is another way?if it is, how can i add that dts stream to VOB?i found that IfoEdit can do it but it has no user friendly interface and i can't use it, convertxdvd does the job pretty well (convert, encode, author and burn) in one click, but the resulting video not that good as AVStoDVD which made me change to it but still the main problem the dts audio.another thing ,is there any software like convertxdvd (does every thing in one click )but has more powerful video encoder and supports dts than convertx does.thank you all in advance

  2. Take the M2V video and the DTS audio and author them to DVD using Muxman. If you only have whatever DVD you made, demux the video using PGCDemux. If you only have VOB(s), open it (them) in DGIndex and go File->Save Project and Demux Video. Then author using Muxman. If the source of the DTS audio is a Blu-Ray, then most likely it won't work for DVD.

AVStoDVD supports DTS if it is compliant. It does not encode DTS, but that is a commercial issue - DTS encoders aren't free. I have happily encoded mkvs with DTS audio to DVD with DTS audio using AVStoDVD.

i tried what you've said and used Muxman but when i try to add *.dts it didn't accept it? and how come convertxdvd does the job pretty well? i've experienced no problem with dts audio when i used convertxdvd

Then it's not DVD compliant. Like I said before, if the original source for the DTS track was a Blu-Ray, then the chances are very good it's not compliant for DVD. I don't use ConvertX2DVD and can't speak to why it's accepted there.

Have you looked at the authoring section of IFOedit...an oldie but a goodie... If its a Bluray DTS track maybe using clown_BD or eac3to to re record the track to make it compliant.. Then try to mix the two steams again.

Re-read my post. It says that

    a) I have used AVStoDVD to convert mkv files that have DTS audio into DVD structures that have DTS audio
    b) AVStoDVD will do this only if the DTS audio is DVD compliant
    c) AVStoDVD does not encode audio to DTS

so there is no way adding dts stream if it's not dvd specification, still wonder how convertx can handle dts streams even if they not dvd compatible (1.5 mb/s,48khz sample rate with 24 bit resolution)

Then I guess you didn't look close enough. Up at the top, DVD Author->Author New DVD.

The only way to produce a 100% dvd compliant DTS stream is to downgrade resolution to 16 or 20 bit. To do that you will need a DTS transcoder. Since there are no freeware DTS transcoder, AVStoDVD does not have that capability. I do not know how CX2D (payware) works.

  14. There must be something wrong with it, but DTS for DVD-Video is allowed to be 24 bit:
DTS (Digital Theater Systems) Digital Surround is an optional multi-channel digital audio format, using lossy compression from PCM at 48 kHz at up to 24 bits.
    http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#3.6.2
DTS 96/24 allows the delivery of 5.1 channels of 24-bit, 96 kHz audio and high quality video on the DVD-Video format.

  15. I would change my sentence:

The only way to produce a 100% Muxman compliant DTS stream is to downgrade resolution to 16 or 20 bit

we should deepen this aspect with mpucoder

Are you saying that Muxman won't accept 24 bit DTS audio as input? I don't know as I don't have any with which to test. He doesn't say much on his page about supported input:
    DTS - 48K sampling rate, 768Kbps or 1536Kbps, 5.1 channels.
    http://www.mpucoder.com/Muxman/versions.shtml

If you're right, then yes, this should be brought to his attention.

Chapters are created when authoring, not later. IFOEdit and Muxman accept them in frame number format in a text file. For example, if you're PAL and every 5 minutes is OK, then:

    7500
    15000
    22500
    30000
    .
    .
    .

If you want to set them at specific scene changes, then open it in something that shows frame numbers (an AviSynth script in VDub(Mod)or the M2V in VDubMod). NTSC needs to be for 29.97fps frame numbers.

If you want menus, then use an authoring program that allows you to make menus (for free, DVDAuthorGUI, GUI4DVDAuthor, DVD Styler).

Good authoring programs do not re-encode or transcode, so they do not affect the visual quality of the source. Ditto with audio. Some of the consumer authoring tools will re-encode, often without telling you (think Nero/Roxio and other toys). If you use something like IFOEdit or Muxman then there will be no re-encoding. Same for higher end tools like DVD Lab Pro, DVD Workshop etc.

No change in either video or audio...your affectively putting both streams in a suitable carrier for DVD work.

Try the demo version of DVD Lab Pro. It can author DTS audio. If it doesn't accept the audio or can't mux it, then the problem lies with your audio file.

What error message ? I know that odd file names can cause some issues, so I usually rename the file to something simple and try again.
