    Hi!

I made a shortfilm, edited in Final Cut. I have exported it through Final Cut to a .mov file with the following specs:

    Frame size:
    1440x1080

    Vid Rate
    25 fps

    Compressor
    HDV1080i50

    Pixel Aspect:
    HD (1440x1080)

    Audio format
    16-bit integer

    Audio Rate
    48 Khz
I now want to make two DVD copies of it. One in NTSC for sending it to filmfestivals in USA and one in PAL for europee. How do I do this?

The applications Im hopefully gonna succed doing this with is:
    Final Cut
    Toast
    Episode Telestream
So how do I do from step one to the last without any quality loss?

    1) I have exported the finished film
    2) ...????

    Thanks a lot

perik - Unfortunately your question is really more about how to do this on Macs than how to do this. Also, weekends aren't really a great time to post for help around here as many of our best members don't read the forums on weekends. If you don't have an answer by Monday, send a private message to a moderator such as Baldrick and ask him to move this post to the Mac forum. When you are doing things on Macs you really need to post on the Mac forum to get help. Very few of us can help you with Mac questions, so that's why anything that involves Macs needs to go to the Mac forum.

Also, you need to look at the "WHAT IS" section at the top left and look under DVD as your resolution will have to be changed for DVD. Also you need to tell exactly what format your audio is. I'd guess its LPCM, but it would be good for you to specify what it is.

  4. So how do I do from step one to the last without any quality loss?
Unfortunately scaling 1440x1080 to 720x480(576 PAL) will result in loss of quality, also converting from one lossy format(MOV) to another(MPEG) will also degrade quality.
If you have access to a Blu-ray writer I would make a AVCHD disc but since you are using a MAC your software options are limited.

  8. I would be very surprised if you needed to make a PAL version for Europe, as their machines play ntsc on pal TV's, unlike North America where they only think of their own market

The way the pros do it is shoot/edit 24p (23.976 fps), then process each as follows

PAL DVD - speed up 4% to 25fps. Reprocess audio to match new frame rate. Resize and encode/author 720x576 25 fps DVD.

    NTSC DVD - Resize and encode/author a 720x480p 23.976 fps DVD.
(The DVD would be flagged progressive and "wide")

Ok. I think now all the different possibillities in compressor trying to convert from
    Frame size:
    1440x1080

    Vid Rate
    25 fps

    Compressor
    HDV1080i50

    Pixel Aspect:
    HD (1440x1080)

    Audio format
    16-bit integer

    Audio Rate
    48 Khz
    to:
    NTSC: 720x480 29.97fps or
    720x480 24fps
but the quality is NO good. Its getting murry and with pixels and my subtiles text is also murry and not good quality at all!

and the file I tested with, the one with the settings above are (just a small one for trying, maybe 7 seconds long) are about 70 mb and the ones Im converting to are around 10 so guess thats explains a bit of the quality??

are there NO way just decreasing the size of the footage in Final Cut and change it also to 24fps without loosing all the good quality it was from the beginning.

Im thinking of sending it to filmfestivals in America but with the quality it is after its converted I doubt that anyone want to screen it.

I also tried whith these programs:
    Episode encoder telestream
    Canopus ProCoder (in windows)
    compressor

but with similliar result. not good at all!

Is it possible to do the following way with hardware:
    1) taking it back to a DV-tape in my camera Canon HV30
    2) Connect my Camera to a seperate DV/HDV recorder and record it back as NTSC??

    any other solution?
Im starting to get desperate (and tired of this thing)

    thanks for all replies!
