deleting junk off the hd, I have found what I believe to be an old (possibly broken) family recording in the avi format on the hd. I think it was sent to me via the net, and although its one file, is strangely broken into two parts, eg :-
november 21st.avi.0
november 21st.avi.1
as you can see the true extensions are numbers (?), so the actual fies dont play in any player. I have also tried some repair programs (eg divfix and divfix++) but they do not seem to recognise the second part, although they can repair the first video with no sound. is it likely that the file might well be completely damaged beyond repair, or are there any other tools out there that might do a better job in recognising these two parts as one video file and merging it together so that it will play? does anyone know the reason the files are numbered as their true extension? thanks for any info if possible!![]()

thanks! it must have been with a different program, as it would not accept avi.1 and avi.2, I had to rename the extensions to 001 and 002 instead.. but it worked perfectly
not sure if it was worth it though, drunk relations at new year, lol
edit :- I found out hjsplit wasnt the correct program, if I did not rename the extensions, I should have used the program "Hacha" from dr software (http://www.ica-peru.com) its not in english but right clicking on hacha brung up the language option-it worked better than hjsplit, as it kept the file properties tab of the video (right click>properties was unavailable when I used hjsplit to join).Last edited by extent; 19th May 2010 at 14:06.
