    hi,

...i've been using the hauppauge win TV pvr 150 to capture video from a camcorder 8mm.
...most of the captured video was fine; but some has annoying glitches.
    ...what is this caused by?
...and how can i prevent this from happening?

...i'm including a small sample video of the glitches so you can see what i mean.

    thanks,
    janaka

Your tape have weak/unstable vertical synch and the capture card is sensitive. Some Hi8/Digital8 camcorders have TBC feature and can fix these errors. Another way to solve the problem is to put external TBC between the camcorder and capture card, or to try other capture cards less sensitive.

    ...thanks much for the replies.

...i probably should mention a couple of things:
...the way i have it hooked up is that i have the video/audio out from my camcorder going to the video/ audio inputs of my tv.
...so i'm using it as a monitor.
...and the video looks fine on the 'monitor'.
...then i have the video/audio outputs of the tv going to the inputs of my haupauge video capture card.
...when i go to capture, the video on the capture software's preview window shows the glitches.

...i checked to see what TBC was and found a very informative page: http://www.questronix.com.au/info/info_tbc.htm

...would it help at all to go directly from the camcorder to the capture card?

Thats because the capture card is more sensitive to time bases errors, TV is less sensitive.

    No.

Probably not. But it's worth a try. It's always possible the TV is degrading the signal.
