  1. Hi all, new user and complete video noob here!

I recently purchased a camera that's capable of shooting HD 720p video at 24p. This is basically my first time dealing with video, and HD at that.

I'm using Windows Live Movie Maker to stitch some home clips together, and I read a bit regarding how WLMM does not output to true 24p, but instead converts it to 30fps? (I read it here). Obviously, this is confusing me. I'm simply can not grasp the concept of all these different fps formats.

SO, basically what I'm wondering is, how exactly does this "automatic conversion to 30fps" affect my final output??? I'm just basically eyeballing a test clip, btw. the original 24p and the WLMM converted 30fps output, and frankly I'm not seeing any difference. I'm viewing this on my laptop screen though. Would I notice a difference if I viewed it on a different medium? What if I want to burn the video clips to DVD???

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

P.S. the camera I'm using is a Panasonic LX3, and it outputs videos at HD 720p at 24p and in .MOV format.

Have you tried make any custom 24fps profile? You can use windows media profile editor to make profiles, see https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/310315-Windows-Live-Movie-Maker-Custom-output-setti...=1#post1914806

I don't know how the 24fps to 30fps affects the output....but if it looks fine to you it should be enough. .

  3. Hi Baldrick, thanks for the reply. I'll look over the links you suggested, but all this video encoding stuff really is my weak point, so I doubt I'd understand how to go about making custom profiles or the like.
