As far as I am aware, the answer is no.

The disks must be finalised in the recorder that created them.

But are you certain they are not finalised ? They could have been created using VR mode instead of VIDEO mode - can you see the files from Winodws Explorer etc ? These will not play in a stand-alone but you should still be able to play them using a software player such as Power DVD.

BTW You should try to make your topic header a little clearer. A simple 'Please Help' will not attract much interest.

  5. If you use dvd decrypter to "read" the disc, does it say what it was burnt on or do you know what brand of dvd recorder he had, you can extract unfinalised data using isobuster but lordy is it a painful process. If you can find out which brand of dvd recorder you can "buy" one from a best buy or somewhere and finalise them and then return it or some similiar solution.

  6. Just a guess, but, may work.
if DVDs are not CSS copy protected, and video DVDs are on DVD-R (4.7 GB)
Use ImgBurn. Try on one DVD.
ImgBurn will automatically identify its a video DVD.
    1) convert video dvd into ISO file on hard-disk.
    2) burn ISO on blank DVD-R back again.
Try in a stand-alone-SVS-Player, see if it works!

If you put an un-finalised disk into a drive, Imgburn simply reports that the disk needs erasing.

I have had disc's that were not finalized by standalone recorders and one's that would not finalize and i used Isobuster to get the contents off the disc's.

I had to use the pay version, although it would be cheaper and faster.

And yes, an unfinalized disc from a standalone recorder will usually only show up as blank in a PC.
