Yes -- supposedly some type of Unix + encryption. That won't be a solution. There is a program called something like PVR Explorer, but from what I'm hearing there are just a few STBs that it supports. It may not be an answer either. Plus, if you open your STB, this will very likely leave some trace, could possibly damage the equipment, and will abrogate any warranty and violate the agreement you signed with the provider. The only clean and practical solution would be something like that second, expensive gizmo, which attaches externally.
