I know how to add silence to the end of a track using Audacity, but I haven't been able to figure out how to add silence to the beginning. Putting the cursor at the beginning and trying to "paint" a time-span selection to the left (before 0.0) doesn't work. Anybody know?

'Edit' > 'Move cursor' > 'to track start'.
'Generate' > 'Silence' and insert the value.

  3. Easier might be to use DelayCut for the job if this audio file is one used on DVDs (WAV, MPA, AC3, DTS). Open the audio file in DelayCut, in the 'Delay->Start' section add the amount of silence you want at the beginning in milliseconds, and 'Process'.

sambat -- that worked perfectly. I didn't know you could insert a fixed value in the "length" box, I thought it was just for display of the time selection "painted" with the cursor.
    Thanks.
