    I downloaded smplayer-0.6.8-win32.exe which should include mencoder.exe.
I found no mencoder executable in it.

    I downloaded FFmpeg-0.5.1-svn-22140.7z.
I tried using a batch file I found in this forum.
    It had this:
    set PASS1OPTS=-vcodec xvid -b 930kb -bf 1 -an
in one line to set the pass one options.
    I get this error:
    Unknown encoder 'xvid'
Obviously I need to download codecs.

How do I get these codecs and mencoder.exe?

Thanks and have a nice day,
    Sherman Kenney

  2. I have used SMPlayer while ago, as far as I know SMP comes with many flavors.
Try using complete version which comes with shared libraries too, probably you will not need anything more.

If you still need mencoder and ffmpeg, download latest versions from videoHelp.

    Mplayer and Mencoder: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/MPlayer
    FFMpeg: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/ffmpeg

Latest versions are always better and improved (bug-fixed).
VideoHelp still have a nice option for all OLD Versions too!

I personally use VLC now, and LUV VLC.

I used the link on this site to get ffmpeg. It has a text file, the executable, and a docs folder with html files.

I had to use -ac 2 instead of -ac 3.

This implies I don't have the codec for mp3's.

Are all the codecs in the exe or is there a way to get all current codrcs?

ffmpeg doesn't use any Windows codecs.

Note that there are different versions around and that there are small differences in the command syntax. So you may need to modify any batch files you find.

The docs should tell you the options for your version. Also you can type
ffmpeg -h >ff.txt to get its basic options in a text file.
ffmpeg -formats >formats.txt will list the available formats and codecs it supports.

None of the smplayer/mencoder downloads seem to have a copy of mencoder.
    Where can I get it?

  7. Hello,

The non-gui concole mencoder.exe compiled with mingw32. This is used by Win/Dos versions of Zsnes Super Nintendo emulator (http://zsnes.com) for dumping and encoding the video frames captured is super nintendo save states to a standard pc video format.

The last version wich includes mencoder.exe that I found at:

    ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/old_stuff/win32/MPlayer-mingw32-1.0pre7.zip
    ftp.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/win32/MPlayer-mingw32-1.0rc2.zip

    see: http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11810

    Ceers.

    The mencoder.exe in MPlayer-mingw32-1.0pre7.zip is dated 2005.
I have one dated 6/11/2009. If I find where I got it I will post it.

The mplayer that comes with it does not recognize VBR in mp3's.
And smplayer for windows will not even play an mp3 file.
