Ok I'm getting back to using my old dvico fusion gold t 3 hdtv card for capturing off the air digital tv. It records in .tp transport stream files. It also has the option to record in native stream mpg files so I could do that for future recordings if necessary.

I was under the impression that .tp files are essentially the same as .ts files. however the description given in the tools section only list ts files as supported input files for both programs.

My main desire is to do simple muxing to avchd for the tp files. My destination is preferrably dvd dl discs for the stuff that won't fit on single layer (and obviously reencoding for things larger than 8gbs). If necessary I could do reencoding to mkv or mp4. I can playback on a wdtv, ps3, or a dual core amd pc that has a ati card with hdmi out (I do have a xbox 360 as well but that would require a more restrictive mp4 format that requires lengthy reencoding).

I do have the conversion program from arcsoft that came with my hauppauge hd pvr (total extreme). Does that accept tp files?

Basically I'm looking for the most direct way to author a avchd with little to no reencoding involved. I don't think in the end I want to keep the original tp files. I just want to burn to a avchd and use that as my main source (these are off the air broadcasts and I don't forsee any need to retain an original source beyond the avchd disc.

So is the tp file the same as the ts file with a different header? Or is it more substantial than that?

I do have projectx and have used it before. Would I need to demux the tp file prior to using any other program if tp is really an oddball format?

    Thanks for any advice.

EDit - and yes obviously I did test my wdtv and it played a .tp sample recording flawlessly. However I don't have limitless harddrive space and I'm not currently in a position to acquire additional harddrives. I do however have a supply of single and dual layer discs at my disposal.\

Edit 2 - I forgot I also have pinnacle studio 12 plus with the high def pack installed. However that is not a favorable option to me as a regular use item if it does support .tp, it is rather resource intensive even on my amd dual core x2 2.7ghz pc. Though it could be useful for clipping out commercials, unless projectx would be more efficient at snipping commercials should I so desire on certain recordings.

Edit 3 - I just downloaded tsmuxer and it did not recognize a .tp sample clip I had recorded earlier.

I am currently dowloading multiavchd and will test that as well.

I am recording an hour long program currently and will test a record another sample after its finished in native .mpg mode to see if tsmuxer will recognize that format instead.

Edit 4 - I finished downloading multiavchd and it does not recognize .tp files.

I will test the .mpg mode of the card when the recording is finished.

If that is not effective will demuxing the tp file be the only alternative left for relatively easy avchd creation?

Edit 5 - I did a 1min test recording as mpg and both tsmuxer and multiavchd recognized it. It read it as mpeg2. For some reason tsmuxer lost its avchd output option after loading the mpg file but still offered bluray folder support. I tried it in multiavchd and it is now finishing a avchd mode suitable for a flash drive for quick testing on my ps3.

I think this will be the route I'll take.

  2. Rename the .tp to .trp and then load it in multiAVCHD.

If it works - let me know and I'll add .tp to the supported extensions. (or start multiUPDATE to update manually)

@multiavchd - it worked! I renamed a short 30 second clip and I was able to load the tp file as a trp file in multiavchd.

I think however for maximum compatiblity I will record in mpg in the future with this particular hdtv card. But I should be able to rename the 1 hour long recording I made last night in .tp and be able to process it in multiavchd without demuxing or reencoding.

    Thank you.

FYI the avhcd folder structure for the ps3 did not work for some reason. I did it on a test clip and the ps3 read the usb card I was using and saw the avchd folder that I copied but the video did not start. It was just a blank screen. I had wanted to go usb flash to avoid waisting a dvd for a 30 second clip (I don't have any rw's on hand). Fyi too it was only one video test so it may have been a funky capture. However I'll try a full blown avchd with the hour long recording I made last night. Fortunately that hour long clip is at 4.04 gb so I'll be able to use a plain old single layer dvdr.

  4. Good. The latest updated multiAVCHD supports .tp extension directly, too.

So is that why it kept wanting me to update to 751+ even though the version I downloaded last night was a 751 build? I thought it was the same version number and was suprised it wanted a newer verison.

    Thank you.

Fyi I just updated it and it does accept a tp file directly but only if you select the dvr .trp template selection.

Just a suggestion but you may want to add tp as a seperate selection option.

I realize this is probably for a small segment of your user base and this may be a lot of work for only a few people. I am going to be recording in .mpg from now on but it is not the default for this card. You know how some people are that don't bother to look in the menu for other options. Some don't take the time or don't have the curiousity or technical expertise to experiment. I'm guessing the .tp recording mode is default for many generations of dvico fusion capture cards so this will make it easier for others to use your wonderful program.

    Thanks for the update.

  8. I can add it as a separate option, but it is a DVR format so it is properly situated now.

Don't forget that you can simply drag&drop your .tp files to multiAVCHD without even using the [add video] button.
