Heres a crazy but good question. Can you take a Blu Rip thats @ 1080p and have windows downconvert it to 720p during playback. One of my computers running Windows 7 is having trouble playing the full 1080. I do have a few movies that I ripped in 720 and they play fine. I was just curious if there is software available for Windows 7 that could downconvert it so it would be playabe. I mean my screen montior is only 19" I don't need 1080 on it. I don't want to re encode any of my 1080p rips so don't say just re encode them. I use them on my Media Center which plays on my 65" and other LCD TV's around the house.

    You must reconvert then.

But have you tried with a different avc/h264 decoder? Like latest ffdshow or coreavc for your media center. Or different player like MPCHC.

A 2.8 GHZ CPU is weak for playing 1080p h.264.

Another possibility is replace the display card with one that can handle the h.264 decode without CPU load.
Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I agree. I have an old Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz and a new graphicscard did made it possible to playback fairly smoothly.
It only stuttered when doing PiP commentary and the like.
