  1. I have a panasonic dmp-bd80 blu ray player. It has issues with quite a few blu ray discs. I was told that the firmware version was older and that I needed to update it. Since it is not on the network I was directed to a website where I downloaded the firmware. I burned it to disc as instructed. I inserted the disc and the player rebooted and had a message that said L FVU and the it changed to UPDATING. While this message is one it opened the drive I have not closed the drive and it has been this way for 20 minutes now. I was told it shouldn't take over 10 minutes. Is it bricked at this point?

I speak English as a native language and I am just completely baffled at what you are trying to say here. Perhaps a better written description would give us a better understanding of what you did and what happened afterward.

Generally speaking when a firmware update is over the player may eject the disc. That's your signal that it's done. Have you tried simply removing the disc and trying to use the player? It all sounds to me like everything may have gone OK.

  3. I have a panasonic dmp-bd80 blu ray player. I downloaded the firmware update from panasonic's support site. I burned it to disc as per their instructions(ISO9660 format). I inserted the disc into the player. The player spun up the disc and cycled the power. When the power came on the display read L FVU. Then the display changed to UPDATING. At this point it immediately ejected the disc and kept the messaage UPDATING on the display. I left it alone for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes I did what you suggested and tried playing a movie. If I put in any disc but the cd with the firmware on it, the disc gets ejected and the display says INSERT DISC.

  4. Problem resolved. The message I was getting was UPD NG which means update no good. It was an issue with how the firmware disc was burned. I searched a few panasonic specific forums and found this information.
