  2. EDIT:

    "Hire someone competent"

This is why I called it "newbie help" I'm trying to get this and I do understand a lot now.

    1. For the editing tools specifically, that was just me thinking out loud when I asked you if you knew of any other programs I could use. I am perfectly content with Vegas.

    2. I do realize my laptop is severely underpowered and i need a desktop to do what I'm trying to do.

    3. For now im going to try to use the neoscene intermediate codec to change the video I've been using into the cineform codec to hopefully reduce the lag.

I'm really sorry your frustrated, I'm not trying to be annoying. Thanks for all the help

You can't get that done by buying software and hardware. Yon need to hire the right person with experience.

    Hi Coroni,
Don't know if your still monitoring this thread, but the Intensity Pro won't work on any laptop since you cannot install a card in it. I just got the Intensity Shuttle and put a USB 3 adapter in my PCI express slot in my dual core 3.4 HP and there's not enough bandwith and the software won't even load. So I built an I7 that works great with it. You can build one for grand or less. But you do need a motherboard with the X58 or P55 chipset in it. I got the Asus P6X58D Premium, for just under 300$ but the P6X58D-E will work just fine and you can find it for about 239$. These motherboards have the X58 chipset and the usb 3 ports needed for the Shuttle.
As far as using Sony Vegas Pro 9, it plays and edits the Blackmagic motion jpeg format great, but I can't get that format choice to show up in my Vegas capture settings, only 8 bit YUV AVI and HD422 MXF. But that's not a problem. The Shuttle and the Intensity Pro card come with Media Express software that will capture 1080i Blackmagic Motion jpeg to a single 7200 rpm drive. Only capturing uncompressed needs a raid array. Capture with that and then import into Vegas Pro 9 and it works fantastic! Sony Vegas is a CPU based program so a high dollar graphics card with a GPU will make no difference when editing in Vegas. I put a $90 Invidea card with dual DVI outs in mine and it works great. I would put 2 hard drives in, one for the operating system and one for your media. If you do decide to go this route, let me know and I will help you out getting it set up. danhays2004@yahoo.com By the way, Blackmagic says the HP ENVY is compatible with the Shuttle, the only laptop so far with the right chipset and a USB 3 port. Hope this helps, Danny Hays, Universal Studios Orlando. And by the way, we were all newbies at one time. Vegas is great and VERY easy to use. I am a Sony Vegas forum Leader on Creativecow forums. They also have a blackmagin forum as well.
