    New rig

I'm going to hopefully sale my old setup and have enough money for a newer build.

Suggestions would be great. When I wanted to do this last time I wasn't thinking what would be best for overclocking and what would be future proof so I'm trying to find a good Mobo that will support an AMD X6.

Motherboard: still looking??? Hoping to stay under $130 and either AMD 770 or newer, I game

CPU: (already have) AMD Athlon ll X4 630

    Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

    DVD/CD: (already have) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118030

RAM: I was looking at G.SKIlLL but got word that they aren't too great with OCing and I know from trying recently..??? Looking for DDR3 2X2GB wanting to keep this under $130 also.

GPU: (already have) BFG GTX 260

Thanks for any suggestions, I know I'll get the best answer's here. Such as my laptop and GPU, haven't been disappointed yet

That GSkill Ripjaws set you posted isn't compatible with AM3 mobo's.
    http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=221

I've posted at the GSkill forum to make sure their ram would be compatible with a particular mobo.
    http://gskill.us/forum/

Here's a GSKill Ripjaws that would be compatible with some Gigabyte 770, 785 and 790 chipset mobo's. I actually was going to get this set but redwudz suggested the higher DDR3-1600 ram to give me more head room to overclock. MushkinSean told me most AM3 mobo's are good with DDR3-1333 ram compared to DDR3-1600 when overclocking.

I love the ASUS boards, I just wish they came with USB 3.0 and SATA 3.0 to give me some future necessities. The other one I posted doesn't have any reviews and I don't like being a lab rat.

I may go with one of the GIGABYTE boards, they seem to have all that I need. Also they get tons of great reviews. I think I have the board narrowed down to 2 or 3 and as for the RAM the Mushkin seems like a must have.

Would you suggest the 1600 or 1333?? Or would you like to see what board I pick first

PS thanks for the AM3/Ripjaw Knowledge.

This one seems to be the one that I want everything I should need.

Just have to wait on Craigslist buyers, who's knows how long that will take, and need to return ddr2 ram back to newegg to get my ddr3.

Now if only I could get that oh so wonderful Win7 Ultimate 64bit it's pricey

Check with MushkinSean at either overclock.net or at the Mushkin forum. He works for Mushkin in Fremont, CA. You can private msg him at overclock.net. You'd wanna make sure that Mushkin ram is compatible with that Gigabyte GA-790XT-USB3 mobo.

I took a chance at buying that Mushkin ram even though I was told I may have to bring it down to 1333 when overclocking the AMD 630 Propus cpu. It worked out well for me since it's going at a little faster speed than what's it rated at.

Yup, that W7 Ulitmate is pricey!

I just sent him an email. If the Mushkin won't work I did see some pretty good choices at the motherboards website for compatible memory.

    I will post back soon

You can get that same CPU cooler from Fry's Electronics every day fot $29.99.

If I was building an AMD, I'd probably get this MB...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128438

...It's got all the bells and whistles and comes with three PCI-e 1x slots for future proofing (or if your video card takes up two slots like mine). It has two SATA 3.0, six SATA 6.0 and two e-SATA. That's ten hard drive hookups. It also has USB 3.0 and firewire.

Here's the reply from Sean (Mushkin Guy), "Yeah you should be able to get in that range, you would need 250x14 on the CPU
So that would give you the option for the memory at DDR3-1665 or DDR3-1333, either of those are quite possible. At 1333 you should be able to get tighter timings, like CL7

The Gigabyte mobo will make it a lot easier to do.

Sean" (range being 3.5GHz or higher)

Sounds pretty promising. I think I'm stuck on my build. Thanks for the previous suggestion though.

I have to steal my girlfriends laptop. I found a bunch of fans in my boxes of computer stuff so I may pop a bunch in. Good time to re-wire the case and give it a good dust bustin!

The motherboards box was pretty and the CPU cooler had a fan the size of my head, which I wasn't expecting but I like it!

I read that this cooler may touch the North Bridge but I had plenty of room. It did come pretty close to the RAM though. It was a little harder to install the cooler than I expected, but I like a challenge

These temps are with no cure time (using Arctic Silver). A pretty nice drop from my last cooler. Can't wait to see what the temps will read in a couple of days

As you can see I have a pretty old case and a new one will be my next purchase. But there it is, all together. The wire management wasn't a huge deal to me because I keep my case open.

At the bottom I set a fan there to cool off the South Bridge and my GPU can suck up all the cool air which keeps it nice and cool also.

The motherboard has plenty of BIOS options unlike my other one and has plenty of spots for fans, not sure if I'll add my others or not.

I'll be overclocking as soon as it has its cure time and I'll post back with results
