Hello I wounder if you could help.

I got some old video tapes on my old Sony video 8 recorder (CCD -TR350E) and I want to convert the tapes to mpg files on my computer.
I bought a PCTV Hybrid Pro Stick which got a analouge line video/audio input besides the antenna input for TV reception.

I connect the analouge line video/audio input to the video and audio output of the Sony recorder, and then I can record the video and audio into an mpg file on the computer.
It works pretty well, but I get some strange flickering (de sync) when I do the recording, what is wrong.
I have attached a little test file so you can see what I mean.

Can any software after-process my video files and "take out" the flickering frames?

    Thank you very much

  2. You need a time base corrector. Or a capture device that's less sensitive to time base errors.

Hello jagabo, thank you for your input.

I have access to an old Philips DVD recorder model Philips DVD880 or DVD890 and I thought that I could copy my old video tapes over to DVD's and then rip them with the computer but th question is if the DVD recorder has built in TBC so I get better copies, or the result will be the same as on the conversion with the PCTV Hybrid Pro Stick directly to the computer.

In other words, does DVD recorders (Philips DVD880 or DVD890) have builtin TBC?

  4. I'm pretty sure your Philips DVD recorder doesn't have a TBC. But why don't you just try recording the same video with it and see if the results are any better. Even if it doesn't have a TBC it may be less susceptible to time base errors. Also try using the DVD recorder's passthrough. Just run s-video from the camcorder to the DVD recorder, then from the DVD recorder's output to the capture card.

Do you see the same problem when you connect the camcorder directly to a TV?

    Hi Jagabo,

You are absolutely right, I will try it and see if anything is improved.
I will see ifI can find the Philips DVD recorder and try it, and then come back here with a status.
