  1. Alrighty then - let's try this another way.

If there are any mkv knowledgeable individuals who own this player, and have hacked said player so that it may play mkv files, I'd appreciate it if you could message me privately, as I have a few questions I'd like to ask.

There - that should take the little sad away from the admins and make them all happy .

You clearly don't understand how we work here and have made some very invalid assumptions. Nothing in your post would have aroused the ire of the mods if you had gone into details unless maybe you were talking about downloading videos that you don't own.

You also don't understand how hacks work. Hacks don't enable players to magically play MKV files where they did not do so before. Either your play can play MKV files or it cannot. It is really that simple. There are a FEW hacks for BluRay players that can remove DVD region checking, but that's it. The vast majority of BluRay players have no hacks of any kind. There is maybe one or at most 2 Samsung models that can be hacked, but I only heard of the region hacks working on players sold in region 4.

  3. You like saying 'you don't understand' alot, don't you? Feel empowered? Good for you.

My Samsung did not play mkv's out of the box. Firmware upgrade did not solve the problem. A Brazilian firmware update, with an edit, and now it does. It really is that simple.

I didn't know that BD-P1600 can play ".mkv" files!
There is nothing illegal on this.
Would you please post the link of this "update"?
I guess, "you made my day" !

Exactly. First thread started by the OP:

Evidently there is a Brazilian firmware hack for that player, partway down this page:
