Hi guys, just formatted my PC to install Windows 7. For some reason since the fresh install, I could not play DTS audio at all. I did a bit of a Google search and installed the ffdshow decoder which has given me a buzzing sound for any DTS audio.

I am using the latest K-Lite mega codec package with ffdshow also installed. I am also using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Upgraded from Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit). My sound hardware is onboard Realtek HD Audio (latest driver installed from Gigabyte website). Hardware or connection issues are ruled out because it worked fine previously.

The only difference is previously I was just running Xvid decoder and AC3Filter before uninstalling both to install K-Lite. On this new install I just installed K-lite straight out.

If anyone could shed some light on this problem I'd greatly appreciate it because it would be nice to hear my DTS audio!

    Thanks heaps
    Michael

What I would recommend doing is uninstalling all codecs, including the K-Lite mega codec, as well as any others you've installed, and instead use: (DIVX audio/video codecs) + (AC3Filter)

They're completely free, and can play almost EVERY single audio/video file known! (this is what I use at least)

I too tried the K-Lite package of codecs at first, but had problems with it... So just follow these steps and you should be on your way.

    1. Uninstall all previous audio/video codecs
    2. http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus/codec-pack (you'll notice if you scroll down under "supported formats" that DTS* is one of the ones listed under audio)
    3. http://www.divx.com/en/software/divx-plus (click on free download and once its done, just install all components ESPECIALLY the codecs)
    4. http://ac3filter.net/projects/ac3filter/releases (then download and install AC3Filter, and you'll be good to go!)

**NOTE** When installing AC3Filter, you'll notice that when it asks you to select the features of program you would like to install, there are options for 32bit, as well as 64bit.

YOU MUST INSTALL THEM BOTH (regardless of the fact you have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit edition) --> So in other words, make sure everything has a checked box next to it before installing AC3Filer.

This will make Windows Media Player, Windows Media Center, and any other windows programs play all audio/video files including DTS!!!!!

    Good Luck (:

codec packs = headache. I would use ffdshow + Haali media spliter + Ac3 filter , which has the addd option of bit streaming to your receiver. use something like MPC-HC as your video player it has pretty much all need codecs built in. Or you can decode with ffdShow which will give you better playback.

You can find many guides on line detailing set this up.
Murphy's law taught me everything I know.
