My JVC HM200 camcorder creates .MTS files. I followed these instructions:

    http://a8t8.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2518DD508BB713E8!240.entry?wa=wsignin1.0&sa=15 0942360

The files do play now, but in slow motion--about 1/2 normal speed, in WMP11, with XP. I also have the KM Player installed and it plays them the same way. I know the computer can play them because I tried the Windows 7 RC and it would play normally in WMP (with the occasional dropped frame).

    Any ideas here? thanks.

try Splash, it suports h/w acceleration on XP and is really nice for avchd clips.
i use it every day on several pcs.

  3. Could be some strange flags set by your camcorder. MPC-HC should be able to handle it, as your link says.

Thanks for the replies. I tried Splash; it works about the same as my other two--0.5x slow motion. To reconfirm, I booted up Win7 RC, and yes it does play properly in WMP12. (Tho not perfect--takes 5 sec. or so to stop stuttering). MPC-HC I just downloaded; it doesn't play the clips at all...

if your computer specs are correct the p4 3.2 is probably too slow to play it.

  6. Yeah, if you're on a single core CPU, it's probably too slow to decode 1080p. You can disable the loop filter in whatever H.264 decoder you use, which will reduce quality but speed up decoding. You can also try the DivX H.264 decoder, which should be very fast and probably a bit faster than ffmpeg, which MPC-HC and KMPlayer rely on.

Yes, not enough CPU power, that was my thought as well. But how does WMP12/Win7 play it then? Also another detail, a while ago I DID have KM Player playing these clips normally! I have no idea what settings I was using tho; it has so many (one of the reasons I think it's the best player I've ever tried).

I tried divx player; didn't play. Tried pointing KMPlayer to use divx decoder; no change. (Tho I'm not sure I did it properly).

  8. Exactly what decoder is being used to play these files under KMPlayer? And how about under WMP? I know how to check the decoder being used in MPC-HC - right-click in playback window > Filters. Try to figure out what's being used in your players. If a slow decoder is being used, then you need to use another (probably by changing codec priority).

If these clips really played normally on KMPlayer, without any noticeable frame dropping, then you have a codec configuration problem.
