Unfortunately it is a cheap Emachines that didnt come with a recovery disk. They have to buy it. Might be the only way to fix the comp.

Well let's see now. The OP does not have the OEM discs AND he has already said he does not have enough knowledge about computers. And the makers of products like MalWareBytes and the people who pay for the extended version of MalwareBytes (and other programs) would be thrilled to know that YOU know that they still leave virus residue behind.
Blurting out REFORMAT, especially without clearly spelling out the consequences of that action, is NOT helping.....especially since the OP didn't come here asking for reformat help.
How helpful do you feel now? -
You have to buy the reinstall disk separately? That's the kind of crap that would make me recover whatever data I could from the machine then break it for spares and buy something less overtly shitty.
But... nerd rage isn't going to help at this point. Let's have a think...
* Get the disk out and put it in an external enclosure
* Get another "clean" (empty) external drive, DVD recorder, whatever
* Load up a recovery LiveCD of your choice (Linux, BartPE etc) on a diskless machine
* Connect it, with autorun disabled..... run a variety of cleaning programs on the disk without opening it up in My Computer or whatever.
* Recover all the documents
* Nuke it with extreme prejudice. Low level format should do.
* Check what windows license the eMachines came with and source yourself a matching install disk. MS don't give a crap about you copying the CDs if you do so "legitimately", it's using their contents without a license that brings the legal pain. Ditto any bundled programs that actually got used.
* Make sure you have installers for half decent security softs and browser(s).
* Put disk back in original PC, reinstall operating system and programs - doing the security ones first - THEN connect internet, and repeately run windows update from the website until nothing important is flagged. THEN reinstate the user documents when all the holes are patched and an on-access scanner is running.
* Image that bastard and keep copies of the image masters in two safe locations.
I don't setup a PC for anyone any more without including a free security software complement that I'd be comfortable using on my own machine AND making easy-to-use image disks with it in its "clean" state (freshly installed with security, updates and main productivity software and nothing else). Shocking that something to do similar wasn't delivered with a commercial machine, no matter how penny pinching it's supposed to be.
Security software that I'd personally recommend for trying to get out of and then not re-entering this pickle includes Alwil Avast! antivirus (or AVG if you really have to), Lavasoft AdAware, Safer Networking's Spybot Search & Destroy (particularly the browser inoculation feature), ZoneAlarm basic firewall, Firefox + Adblock / NoScript, HijackThis...
Or just tell them to buy a secondhand Mac?-= She sez there's ants in the carpet, dirty little monsters! =-
Back after a long time away, mainly because I now need to start making up vidcapped DVDRs for work and I haven't a clue where to start any more! -
From administrator account in safemode
1: Disable system restore points ... most likely you'll only see one created at the time of infection.
2: Verify iexplorer.exe and rundll.dll versions ... you will need exact version copies for current os in use as these will be deleted
3: Run malwarebytes in full system scan mode only and proceed with removal of all found
4: Return to safemode and place those files back to their required directories and reboot
5: Return to normal mode and run from command prompt
sfc /scannow
You will need the os disc which matches the currently installed os
6: Reboot. -
Wow, I hope you feel good about yourself. I was going to help him through the process, if he had the disc that is. I would have told him everything he needed to know, especially the consequences.
Now I'll just leave it to you since I don't seem to be of any help, I apologize for my "lack of knowledge" I suppose.
I guess I'll just unsubscribe from this thread so no arguments arise and good luck to the person in need, I'm sorry I couldn't be of much help.
