I downloaded the latest Anydvd 6.6.3.6 and it won't work on Avatar. I continue to get a message that the drive is not ready.

Try DVDFab Passkey, it's free, not sure if it works but you can give it a try.

AnyDVD 6.6.3.6 is a beta version so they are still working on it.

I looked at the AnyDVD forum on this and it seems most people around the globe are having the same problem. Perhaps it's not BD+,but some new protection that prevents reading your drive?

I copied it just fine with the standard DVD. So it must be a BD+ problem.

You did pay the extra cash for the HD/BD ripping function didn't you?

Yes I am a legally registered user of AnyDVD HD. I notice that the disk will not play on my computer using TMT3,but will play using PowerDVD 10.

Avatar was released on Earth Day (Thursday, the 22nd) because, according to Fox, "the film's themes match the day's goal of environmental awareness."

  10. AnyDVD 6.6.3.7 beta should handle the US releases for Avatar and a number of the European releases. Refer to the Slysoft forums for the beta update.

    6.6.3.7 2010 04 23
    - New (Blu-ray): Added support for new BD+ protections, e.g. "Avatar" (US)
    - New (HD DVD & Blu-ray): Added events for HD DVD and Blu-ray discs to the option to start external programs
    - New (Blu-ray): Updated decryption keys
    - New (DVD): Added support for new protections
    - Fix (DVD): DVD video mode detection
    - Added more programs to the list requiring "aggressive I/O mode"
    - Some minor fixes and improvements
    - Updated languages

Note regarding Avatar BD: This version will work with both US versions of the disc (RED_BIRD_2D_WW).
It will work with the European "RED_BIRD_2D_F3" version of the disc (e.g., France, Germany, Switzerland, ...)

    Information regarding players:

Now, with the help of AnyDVD, Avatar will play on those players that previously couldn't handle the disc, like ArcSoft TMT3 or older versions of PowerDVD.

Note that PowerDVD 10 build 1516 has a bug due to which Avatar sometimes will not play but get stuck in a black screen. This is not a protection issue. There is an update available for PowerDVD 10 that handles this.

My blockbuster had them on Wednesday, but the official release date has been Thursday 23/4 for a long time. Lot of places do put out movies a couple of days early and my local BB sometimes has films out a week before the release dates on imdb.
