    Help,
I'm trying to get a old movie off Netflix Instant that is not available any where else, Spider Baby. I have Replay Media Center that works great with YouTube but having problems with Netflix. I start recording with Replay than open netflix, choose the movie to play, it loads than starts. The replay shows it started but only records about 109mgs and doesn't play back. What am I doing wrong?
    Thankx

Isn't that against the Netflix TOS?

I don't ever stream Netflix, although I am a customer, so I can't help you much. I do know that Netflix uses Microsoft's Silverlight for streaming. In a fiendishly clever move, Silverlight actually streams separate audio and video streams. This makes it very difficult to capture Netflix streams. I honestly don't know if any streaming media capture program is capable of doing it correctly. The streaming mechanism is quite different from YouTube and was designed specifically to try to thwart people from doing what you want to do. And I believe that Supreme2k is right and attempting to record a Netfix stream does violate their terms of service.

By the way, Spider Baby is easily available elsewhere. Amazon has copies for sale quite cheap. And you can find torrents of it.

    Yep.

You know this is reminiscent of a topic you started recently Supreme2k.

To the OP. Can't be done. Netflix uses silverlight to stream with which to my knowledge hasn't been hacked. Have you tried searching ebay or amazon for a used copy?
Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again")

  5. TOS aside, Netflix uses encrypted WMV under a Silverlight VM. I'm not aware of any software that will capture the stream at this time. You could use screen recording software. Or, play the video full screen and capture video output from the computer with a suitable capture device.

Not that rare. Buy it cheap on Amazon and be a law-abiding citizen.

    Not possible and not legal.

Just 4 posts in, and already going the piracy route. Shame on you.

  9. Netflix just added Closed Caption support to streaming. Only 100 so far, try Lost seasons 1-4 if you want to see it in action.

This site is full of messages and guides on ripping and backup copyrighted dvds & blu-ray so I don't think my questions was that out of line. Just wanted to know if it was possible, sorry for bothering you.

  11. The messages and guides you read have to do with ripping and backing up copyrighted dvds & blu-ray discs that you own. Not from rented or borrowed discs or Netflix streaming which is considered a rental.

Even if you own a disc it's still against copyright law to backup and copy.
Anyone that tells you different is wrong and using that excuse for selling or using software that copies and removes protection.
