Almost impossible.
I say *almost* because for a reduction in file size of, oh a percentage or two, a transcode may actually produce a better result. That's assuming ample DCT (discrete cosine transform) data in the source file (it varies).
ReJig is a plain vanilla transcoder that reduces DCT data, making the stream slightly less accurate. Again, if there's plenty of DCT data, transcoding may be better for a modest file reduction. Re-encoding with lossy compression always entails quality loss. And although I haven't used ReJig in ages, 5 minutes seems awfully quick. Which makes it all the more surprising that DVDRB took six hours to get little more than halfway done.
Something else is going on, no idea what. But do us a favor and fill in your computer details.

Just a thought - can you not purchase Dual Layer DVDs online? I don't know where you are, and what different companies' policies are for international deliveries, but I would think that might be a possibilty. Of course, before you go to the trouble of checking that out, make sure your DVD burner is capable of writing to Dual Layer discs.
And I echo someone's earlier post about your needing a new hard drive. If you don't have room to rip the DVDs, you definitely will not have room for the conversion files. Temporary files created during the shrinking process can sometimes be as big as the DVD itself, depending on the conversion program.Do or do not. There is no "try." - Yoda -
I have not read through all the posts in this thread, but would you consider splitting a DVD-9 to two DVD-5s? That would give you the original picture quality because no re-encoding is needed. You can keep the menus on both discs, too. You would use whatever ripper (in file mode) that works for you, plus vobblanker and pgcedit as this guide mentions http://download.videohelp.com/jsoto/guides/VobBlanker/splitdvd9/index.php. With some trial, and maybe some error, you can get used to removing previews/FBI warning screens/etc too. I've found that a few discs can't be split that way, though, like Die Hard 4...
Anyway, good luckPut NBC's Ed on Blu-ray! -
^^^Buy ANYDVD to remove warnings and copy encryption protection from dvd discs....then rip with ANYDVD...then buy yourself some VERBATIM DVD+R Dual layer media....then burn with IMGBURN. That will be the best video quality you can get....as for your comments on CCE I beg to differ...I use DVD REBUILDER PRO with CCE and have no issues of pixelations or whatever you had posted before on seeing when using CCE.....nuff said.
