    @2B,
    There's so much that I've forgotten about S-VHS -- do VHS and S-VHS have the same chroma res(lines) size and bandwidth? I don't remember anymore. I'm thinking that it does, but I'd like some confirmation. (Don't much feel like surfing pages in old books on the subject right now.)

    Indeed, both were subject to heavy chroma noise.
    I'd note this wasn't as present in S-VHS pro cameras as it was for S-VHS VCRs (or budget S-VHS cams).

    It's exactly the same colour under system - same frequencies, same bandwidth.

    However, the luma centre frequency is increased, mainly to make room for the higher luma band width, but this potentially also gives less chroma/luma overlap on-tape. I didn't think there was much anyway, but that's what a VCR service manual is showing me!
