If your burner is in slave mode that might be part of the prob. If you do cd to cd copying make sure the drives arent on the same ide cable. Hope this helps.

its an external burner.; i am sorry for not mentioning. its not internal , its hooked up by usb cable. please respond

disconnect anything else you have on a usb port on your comp. unless of course you have usb2 ports. usb1 shares it's bandwidth between all peripherals connected through usb on your comp (the reason i refuse to use usb for my mouse and keyboard)

ok i have 2 usb ports one for burner an the other for camera and the camera is not hooked up. i have a cordless mouse and keyboard might that be what u are talkin about? i can take my burner to work and leave everything hooked up and it will burn at fast speeds.

no the keyboard and mouse will only affect your usb if they are usb. If that's not the problem, i don't know what is. you might consider making sure you have the latest drivers for your mother board, that might help. Or you could consider getting a usb2 pci card (even if your burner isn't usb2 you might get a better speed) you can find some at very decent prices (www.onlyusb.com 39.99$). You should'nt burn at more than 4x with a usb1 burner anyways.

Go into device manger and double click on your cd rom and enable (Dma) direct memory access. This will speed up your drive, guaranteed!
