I have a home theater that I've spent plenty of time and money on and from time to time I demonstrate the system to people. It is not practical to insert Blu-ray after Blu-ray just to see 3-5min scenes from each disc. I'd like to compile a collection of my favorite demonstration scenes, author them to a custom menu, and then be able to play it back on the PS3 or standalone Blu-ray player. I AM NOT interested in re-encoding anything nor will I want to ditch the DTS-HD, TrueHD or LPCM tracks. This disc will also serve as my own test reference as I add, change and modify equipment.
Long ago, before the days of Blu-ray, I made a similar disc with DVD. I used DVD-shrink to clip the .VOBs from different movie scenes that I liked. I kept those. VOB files on my PC along with the menu creation and authoring software. Over time as new movies were released, with notable scenes that I'd liked added to my "demonstration" disc I would trim the .Vob simply add a link in the DVD menu and hit the re-author button. I'd like to be able to do the same with my quest for a Blu-ray Demo disc.
My first step is to simply be able to trim a scene from a Blu-ray and for me to play the standalone file on a PS3 with the Lossless Audio intact. I currently have a decrypted copy of a Blu-ray on my PC that has the files in their native Blu-ray Disc structure. What software should I use to accomplish this? I see that in TsMuxer there is an option to "cut" with start and end times but I doesn't appear to allow precise input as It only gives Mins, Seconds, or Milliseconds. If I want to start at 1hr-36mins-16seconds do I really have to convert that to "seconds"? If so, I'll do it. If there is any other software, either free or relatively cheap that can accomplish this better than TsMuxer I'd be interested.
Once I have all of my trimmed files, which I assume will be individual XXXX.m2ts files, I will be ready to author a menu and "link" each clip to a clickable navigation item. I am clueless as to what software to use here. I'm not looking for a menu that is complex, in fact something rather simple that perhaps has an image of my theater in the background with written text for direct access to each scene. I need some suggestions.
Lastly, as of this moment I do NOT have a Blu-ray writer. I'm interested in burning this desk to DVD-9 as it should hold a few clips without any compression/reencoding. I expect each clip will be 2-3 minutes in length on average and at most 5 mins. If the average movie is 90mins/30gigs, I would think I could get 10 or so clips on a DVD-9 with no compression. However, as I understand it, it won't be recognized as a "Blu-ray", but rather an AVCHD disc. Does this change the game when it comes to authoring a disc with menus? If so, I will skip straight to BD-RWs single layers.
I realize I've asked a lot of questions, I appreciate any help you experts can give me. I've been out of the ripping/authoring game since about 04/05.

So I was able to trim a 3 minute segment of a Blu-ray last night and ended up with a 600mB file that contained the video and the DTS-HD track.
The file would play back just fine with Nero on my PC
The file WOULD NOT play back on my PS3 directly (I thought the PS3 could handle M2TS files native)
I used Tsmuxer
I used TS, M2TS, Bluray and AVCHD output options in Tsmuxer
With each of the 4 options I put the files (and their corresponding file structures) onto a memory stick to transfer to the PS3. I could NOT get them to play by browsing to the files.
I was able to get them to play buy burning the AVCHD files to a DVD+R and putting the disc in my PS3.
It's going to take me awhile to compile all my clip segments for this project, is there not a way I can just load the individual M2TS or TS streams straight onto the PS3 as individual files (again since each clip is small) and play them individually? -
I don't know if you have figured this out yet or not, since your post is about 3 months old. I did the same thing you are doing and the result was fantastic. It looks like you know how to get the individual clip onto your hard drive. I use DVDfab Bluray to Bluray software to rip the movie to my hardrive. I like DVDFab because you can select the movie only and only rip the chapter or chapters you want and select which audio track you want as well. After I rip the chapter I want from a movie I use TSMuxer to trim the clip to the desired length. I use the split & cut tab and make sure to use seconds and not minutes. With seconds you can pinpoint the length you want a little easier. Once you have the clip you want add the clip to MultiAVCHD. You can add as many clips as you want in whatever format you want. Most of mine were in DTS Master audio and MultiAVCHD will not reencode the audio or video. When you want to create your movie, or clips make sure to select the play on bluray player tab. I dont have the program in front of me so I dont know exactly what the tab says, but I tried the dvd+r tab and the audio was choppy when I played it on my OPPO BDP-83 bluray player. I burned the compilation onto a Verbatim BD-RE 25GB disc and it played flawlessly. The picture was fantastic and the audio was bit for bit the same as the original movie. You will need a bluray burner for the compilation and you may need to purchase DVDFab bluray to bluray software, or you could try the free trial for 30 days. You will also need a program to burn the compilation, ImgBurn works great. Let me know if you have any questions.

It's been a while since I did it. You need to rip the movie to your hard drive first with DVDFab. Only select a chapter not the whole movie. Drop the file into TSMuxer, use the split cut tab and use the seconds box to trim the clip. It may take some trial and error to get it exactly right. It took me several tries to get the desired length. If you rip the whole movie and then try it, it wont work properly, for some reason your clip will be too short or too long like you said. Good luck.
