I am having issues. I put a movie into mp4 for play on a portable player. but my new tv that can play videos off of usb devices doesnt really like that format. I have had luck with a few of my movies so far that are in mp4 but this one isnt working right. I have been using tsmuxer to demux the file then use mkvtoolnix to mux them into a mkv which my tv does like. but when I do this either ts muxer will give and error or the audio track gets messed up. definition of messed up is for about the first 10 minutes the audio is there and after that it just drops out.

does anyone know of anything that can split the audio and video streams for me so i can repackage into an mkv? I dont need help with anything other then ripping this mp4 apart.

I will post the error if anyone wants to see it. it is basically saying it cannot recognise the audio stream unless i select a certain thing before demuxing. so i do that and it decides to only take the first 10 minutes of audio. in the originating mp4 audio is perfect.

thank you a ton dude. after a little messin mp4muxer seemed to do the trick. very much appreciated. lets just see if popcorn audio converter will successfully convert the AAC to AC3 for me. tv cant play DTS from a HDD. i think that samsung just didnt wanna pay royalties.

  4. What happens when you use MKVmergeGUI to directly import the MP4 file? (You know you can do that, right?)

Don't use Handbrake if your TV accepts the video stream. Handbrake always re-encodes the video, which damages quality and wastes a lot of time.

i dont use handbrake because the one time i did the quality was less them half what it was. UNACCEPTABLE! but i did not know you could import the mp4 directly into MKVmergeGUI. I have already split the specific mp4 that was giving me issues and now its in MKV with no issues... other then the subtitles didnt work on my tv... but that is another issue for later today.

thank you for the ideas guys. next time i have an issue with an mp4 i will definitely try just importing straight into the MKVmergeGUI.
