I have about 80 gigs of captured AVIs at 704x480 from VHS home videos and am going crazy over this one problem. I know all about field orders and getting TMPEGEnc set for Field A or B first. The problem is that the camera was turned on and off during some clips, and for some reason the field order gets changed sometimes when the camera was paused while recording. What happens on playback is that the movie is perfectly smooth, then as soon as the point where the camera was stopped for a while and then begun recording again, the video goes jumpy. Later on, the movie may go smooth again at one of the points where the camera was stopped.
I've tried deinterlacing by just taking one field, but it's UGGGLY and I am trying to archive this stuff to DVD-R in as high quality as possible. I have a feeling that this whole problem is due to a blip in the stream where a field is left out, and then ends up reversed and then messes up on playback.
Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance!
