  1. Hi All,

I've used ffmpegX quite frequently and I love it, but am now having some troubles. When I try to hardcode subtitles into an AVI file the resulting product does not have the subs in the film at all. I've tried this with multiple avi's, multiple subtitle files (.idx, .sub, .srt, and different versions of each) to no avail. I found the software to be working perfectly until a couple of weeks ago. I even downloaded ffmpegX again just to be safe. Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks for all your help

    Elliott

Hardcoding subs requires mencoder/mplayer, so be sure to use a mencoder preset.

  3. Hi,

I actually just tried encoding the movie again with a mencoder preset (mpeg4 avi for reference) and the same thing happened again. No subs. I guess I should mention as a reference I'm trying to play the films on VLC on my computer (just to test) and on my blu-ray player which has played hardcoded movies before from a USB stick. Nothing much has changed with my computer so I'm really up a creek as to how to fix it.

    Thanks for all your help

Using .srt should work with any mencoder preset.
Using .idx(+.sub) only works when encoding to DVD mpeg2enc, while having Decode with mplayer selected in the Options tab.

    Hi,
I've come here in order to find a solution for my problem, and guess what? I found someone who has the same problem as me!

I've done several subtitles hardcoding before using .avi files and .srt files. Tried to do one yesterday and another one today, both failed. I guess Elliot and I are on the same boat.

So, anybody here can help us?

    thanks

Before you encode, what happens when you click Preview under the Filters tab? Do the subs appear? Are you cropping the movie?

Does the same thing happen when you select the Arial font?

Tried everything. But now I've figured it's sth related to this movie file only. I've just tried with another movie and managed to everything properly.
