  1. Hello all,
I have used VDub succesfully for conversion, but am unable to get it to capture. I would like to use the Huffy codec, but without luck. I Have been able to capture with Sony's own DVGate capture utulity.
    Steps taken:
    --Installed newset version of Vdub
--Installed newest version of Huufy codec (right-click on .INF and Install)
    --Installed VFW wrapper
--Connected Sony DVcam to Sony Viao firewire port
--Pressed play on camcorder (in VCR mode)
    --Click File/Capture AVI in VDub
    Results:
--"Capture mode ready" message at bottom of window
--Gray/with dot pattern screen appears in VDub window
--Video/Format menu selection display Video Format dialog with a Stream settings tab. Contents of tab is a ddbox with 4 resolution settings and a "Pixel depth and compression ddBox with only 'dvsl' and 'dvsd' as selections
--Video/Source menu selectoin displays 'Microsoft DV camera and VCR' as the recognized driver
--Vide/Compression menu choice displays only ONE entry which says '(No recompression: dvsd)'

I would expect to see video playing in the preview window (I have Video/Preview checked, and a number of compression codecs on the Video/Compression dialog.

Could anyone tell me what I'm missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks

  2. Am I out of luck here? Has no one had this problem?
I should add that a screenful of compression codecs appear in the Video/Compression dialog when I'm using VDub in regular conversion mode, but in capture mode no codecs seem available.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

  3. Hey, come on guys. Surely someone has run into this. Perhaps VirtualDub can't capture from firewire?

    No feedback?

  4. I too get these errors. I am using firewire and a dazzle dv bridge. All I see is a grey screen with purple dots, and I cant capture using "any" codecs...

You can capture video using another program and open/edit the video in virtual dub, but thats about it.

One time I reinstalled win2k fresh and virtualdub let me capture using dv/firewire but after like a few minutes it started dropping frames like crazy and I have a athlon 1600+ with 7200 rpm drive!

I don;t know if Vdub will support the Firewire connection / port. Just a guess I don't know for sure. I do know that Sonic FOundry's Vegas Video or Adobe Premiere would do it well for you.

Sorry I couldn't be more certain on the reason...but I believe Vdub is only compatible with Analog capture cards and not Firewire cards.

  6. Hey, thanks guys. I least I know I'm not the only one having the problem. That helps narrow the field.

  7. I'd like to do the same thing you are trying but the VideoDub documentation seems to say that its capability in this area is iffy. Have you installed DirectX 8.x?

If you've gotten this far you've probably already read these but just in case:

    http://www.virtualdub.org/docs_capture
    http://www.virtualdub.org/docs_vfwwdm

Good luck and please post if you have any success.
