Not sure if its the right section to post, but since it occurs when converting MKV to DVD I think its right here

So anybody else experiencing sometime the buffer overflow error in DVD Rebuilder?
Already a few movies gave me no problem but no I have one which already crashed twice.
And ofcourse its not in the beginning but after a few hours when its on overal 93% or so

So what can cause such a buffer overflow? What is it!?
And more important ofcourse....whats the solution?

Tried the same with easy DVD Shrink. Gave me no trouble in shrinking but the output was....crap.
Video was mangled.....audio was out of sync....made a mess out of it.

I have in that movie 3 audio streams. Could that be the problem?
Can not be the size (6,5 Gb) because I did bigger files wih DVD rebuilder.
Have set it to use te HC encoder. Normally works fine.
Should I try another encoder? (note: don't have CCE)

Thanks for any tips or tricks

Are you converting mkv to dvd and then shrinking? If so, why not convert to correct size directly?

I know I know, with multiAVCHD I can make it directly dvd size.
However I first want to author it with dvdlab (adding menu's, subs etc.).
So I was thinking I want to restore the original size as long as possible.
And then shrink it with dvd rebuilder, which normally works.

But I still don't know why dvd builder is not working and what the cause is.
Trying now with slight difference in authoring so generating a new source for dvd rebuilder.
Because I tried all modes and they all crash on somewhat the same spot.
Being the first .vob file (reaches only about 230Mb) so the one after the .ifo

But if it keeps crashing I will be forced to first shrink it with multiAVCHD and then demux it again to
then remux and author it with dvdlab

  4. Maybe try Options -> Special Error Processing.

IIRC, buffer overflow usually is caused by buggered audio. Sometimes special error processing will fix that problem.

    @fritzi93,
Thanks for the tip, but I can not find that under options.
And I am using the latest version 1.28 Pro

Anyway dvd rebuilder again crashed also with my modified source files

So then I thought....well I use multiAVCHD for a second time as you also can import DVD folders.
So loaded my DVD folder of about 6.1 GB did the settings for a DVD5 and let it run.
Well I did NOT crash......but the output had only 1 audio track instead of 2 and NONE of the 3 subtitles that where in.
And also the output was only 3.9 GB where I was expecting 4.4 GB or so.
Very dissapointing again. Probably did something wrong with the settings....I dunno.

Not sure what I will do now.....try once more and immidiately make te MKV to DVD5 size or just
leave this one alone for a moment and do something else.....LOL

Ahhh...fiddeling wit DVD files can be soooooo frustrating sometimes

  6. I have v.0.95. Special Error Processing is under Options. Guess it's not in your version.

I think you must have a buggered file.

well found the answer to that:
    "Version 1.10
    • Release Date: Jul 3, 2006
    • Newly updated and improved Segment Editor/Viewer. You can now adjust reduction percentages using a slider. The new viewer also improves the viewability and ease of use for editing and makes several other future features possible. Note that the editor is BETA. It is meant to be tested (only) in this version. For that reason you must manually select "Use Beta (test) Viewer/Editor" under the "Settings" menu to enable it.
    • Corrected an error in menu reencoding in which some STILL menus might show momentarily (on certain specific players) and then exit.
    • Changed defaults in the Viewer/Editor so that "Show Extras Only" is no longer the default.
    • Fixed a bug in which extraction of ILVU sections when a source requires no encoding might receive "corrupt" source warnings and report other unpredictable errors.
    • Corrected an error in which the AutoQMatEnc version many not be collected when the path is obtained from the INI file.
    • Removed the "Special Error Processing" option. It no longer serves a purpose."
So aparently since version 1.10 in 2006 its been taken out because it serves no purpose anymore.
Guess this function is now "build in" and automatically kicks in when needed.....

Maybe the source is crappy yes....
But now giving up. I will get it to work like I want it

  8. You gotta love an optimist.

Me, I'd demux and re-encode the audio to see if that fixes the problem. Try the least drastic measures first.

But like Baldrick says, you're kinda going ass-backwards. Why not encode *once* to the proper size, i.e. leaving enough overhead for your menus? Then author and done.

  9. What version of multiAVCHD did you use? Since build 743-744 it supports 8 audio and 32 subtitle tracks.

If you want to convert the mkv to DVD using DVDLab Pro for authoring then use AVStoDVD for encoding, and choose the Elementary Streams output option. Use these streams in DVDLab Pro to author your final DVD. No need for shrinking or DVD Rebuilder in this process.

    @multiAVCHD,
    Well usisng the latest version.
I updates like everyday so I think its now a 745+
But like I said maybe I messed up the settings. It finds the audio streams and the subtitles.
Only when in authoring mode I saw in the line 1 audio and 0 sub streams authored....so don't know
why it did not take them.

    @guns1inger,
Thanks you for the tip....will try using AVStoDVD once more.
Already was using this with other projects but then read that multiAVCHD was more appropriate for MKV to DVD.
Ah well...lets just try again. One of these programs should be able to do the trick

If you want to create an AVCHD disc, burned to DVD blanks, that is playable int he PS3 and many Bluray players, Multi-AVCHD is a great tool. If you want to create a DVD Video disc that plays in standard DVD players, AVStoDVD is the way to go.

Thanks for the help guys, I knew I was not having to give up on this project

This is the most recent thread I could find on this subject on VH. I finally got around to trying this program, several years later than I had intended. The first attempt, using the most recent free version, was a strikeout. Got to a point somewhere around 80 % through the processing, and it died with the infamous 0003 buffer overrun error. This was from a straight Fab rip of a movie that would have taken up 4.9G of space, which I deemed to be a waste of a DL blank, so I decided to go this route. From what I've been reading online, additional preprocessing has been named as a likely cause of this error with DVD-RB. I did not do any of that. Also found this

    http://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-155363.html

which claims that Avast can cause this error. So I've now put in the Avast settings adjustments that were recommended. We'll see if that makes the difference. In another thread here, LS opined that DVD-RB was just very buggy and unstable. Other members disagreed. In any case, that was years and many program versions ago.

Based on years of high praise for DVD-RB, I was and still am eager to give it a try, for situations like this first test run. But, since this was only a matter of shrinking at 10 % or less, and I've had lots of satisfactory results with DVD-Shrink over the years, I went ahead and did it that way instead. (Haven't checked the results yet.) There was no error with Shrink, nor have I ever seen that sort of error with it.

Another question: the DVD-RB components use older versions than those currently available. (The encoders, DGDecode.Dll.) Can any of these be updated, without mucking things up ?

You can update the encoders: CCE (up to SP2, SP3 is not supported); HCEnc (just rename the desired version to HCBatch.exe and replace the original. But DVDRB won't use new features (!) of it because it is the same commandline. The author of DVDRB himself says the is no difference one could notice.
    Don't update DGDecode.dll, DVDRB won't run properly.
