I have ripped a DVD (which I own) that has some scenes with subtitles. Is there a way to:

a.) extract the subtitles and then add them to the mp4 files that I will be converting the Video_TS file to

    or

b.) convert the Video_TS file to mp4 and whilst retaining the subtitles

    My workflow:

I am ripping with Mac DVD Ripper Pro and converting to H264 mp4 with Elgato Turbo 264HD.

    Thanks as always

  2. You can just use Handbrake for the whole process from ripped VIDEO_TS to MP4 with subs.

Does Handbrake just build the subtitles into the mp4 or create a separate srt file?

I don't know, but since you're on Mac, does it REALLY matter? Do you even have another option if it doesn't do what you want?

My extremely limited experience with Handbrake consists of one video a co-worker (a Mac fanboy) encoded with Handbrake and gave to me. I've never used it myself. That video was of a Japanese movie and the subtitles were hardcoded. So since I am not a user I cannot say with certainty, but subtitles may not be a separate file.

I have an iMac but I never use it for video work because of the lack of tools. What you want to do is very easy on the Windows side, but it's probably like everything on Mac - there's one or maybe two (if you are lucky) tools to do what you want and if you don't like what they do, that's tough.
