This message probably crosses several forums but here goes anyway
I have designed a website www.nebcbeaumont.org and wish to upload sermon videos. The typical video is mpeg4, 1gb however that takes 4 hours to upload so I compressed it to 250kb for a 1 hr upload time using Handbrake software. 1st problem is we need to buy a new video camera because our Canon GL2 keeps breaking tape drives. The camera I'm looking at is a Sony HXR-NX5U which records to sd. I need to record to MPEG2 for dvd's and MPEG4 for ftp to website. I'm thinking I can use the sd card for MPEG2 and run the video out via HDMI to a PC which can ftp the MPEG4 to the website. I would like for the Camera to do the MPEG2 compression for me since the compression step takes 2 hours. The other dilemma is we record the entire service for dvd but only need the sermon part for the website so hopefully I can do that via the HDMI/PC. Does anyone have a better idea?

HDMI out you would have to capture on your computer with a device like a blackmagic intensity pro. then do the editing and conversion.

how about an HDV cam like a canon xlh or xha. you could shoot in HDV 30p for the website on tape. also it would allow the same tape to be played back and captured as SD DVavi for easy editing to and rendering to mpeg-2 DVD.

sounds like you need a faster computer to do the rendering to mpeg-2. a laptop won't cut it for any serious video work. a fast quad core desktop with multiple hard drives is needed.

I'm trying to get away from tape, our 2 previous cameras have each had the tape drives go bad. One is in the shop now. I agree with you on the slow computer, good points. I'll look at the canon xlh and xha. The object is to get the file up on the website as quickly as possible and be able to painlessly create DVD's.
    Thanks
