I have JVC MiniDV camcorder model GR-D75OU.
On record and playback the right side of the screen gets large pixelation, and the audio breaks up.
I've checked older tapes that I know are fine, and the same problem is there on playback.
This camera is old but hasn't done hardly any work.
I have two tapes left to transfer to DVD. Is this a fixable problem or should I just bin the camcorder?

You didn't say whether or not you tried to clean the tape heads on the camcorder. Dirty heads would be the first thing I'd think of.

EDIT: This is the umpteenth time that I've written a reply at the same time as aedipuss. Weird...

Why do most consumer DV SD capture problems over IEEE-1394 mention "JVC"?

I had similar issues with my brother's JVC cam.

O.K. I cleaned the heads a couple of times. No improvement.
But if I fast forward the tape on visual the picture is fine. Does that suggest anything?

another test. use a brand new tape and record a short video. play it back. is the problem there?

if the problem is still there it's most likely a dying cam.
