So who's buying a Ipad? Just wondering if anyone here would purchase one. IMHO Apple = Proprietary.

I was given one for evaluation. Not a bad device, but it is basically a giant iPod Touch.

I am supposed to be receiving a few at work for testing but I won't personally buy one until the next gen version as long as it has USB, a webcam, and a price drop.

This thread is useless without links!!!!!

I don't even know what an "Ipad" is!!

I have never owned anything MAC or Apple, although a friend of my son has given me some old mac, where the monitor and computer is all one unit, those ones you used to get in different designer colors...

    LOL!!

It's been sitting out in my garage for about a month but i am thinking of bringing it into the house to hook up and mess with.

    Yeah right!!!

    Googled it....

So instead of compacting something they enlarged it and want to charge a small fortune!!

Unlike other products created by Steve Jobs’ Apple Inc., the iPad has been controversial with some critics, often techies, deeming it to be just a bigger and — costing between $499 and $829 — more expensive version of the $200 iTouch.
Instead of getting video, Internet, movies, books and e-mail on a 3.5-inch diagonal screen, the iPad has a 9.7-inch diagonal screen. Like its itty-bitty brother, it has no mouse or camera and doesn’t multitask, meaning you can run only one app at a time.

oh, wait, i'm not a chick, so no time of the month, guess i won't ever be needing on.

seriously though, i'd rather have a netbook...

Ditto here - no need for an ipod touch so why would I get a larger ipad?

In my opinion a dedicated ebook reader would be a better deal if that was the main reason you wanted one. They would be a lot cheaper and desinged specifically for that function.

I did not know it could not run more than one application at a time. However does that mean it can't play music while you use other applications? I would find that hard to believe.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

I wasn't going to get one,but work gave me a couple.pretty cool, especially once hacked. I plan on giving these to the kids and getting a 2nd gen when they come out.

it is just a big itouch. But the size increase is everything.

They are not good for extended reading. E ink is much better than backlit LCD.
Once hacked you can play tunes while doing other apps

I like the basic form factor of the iPad over a standard clam-shell-with-rotating-screen tablet (which I currently have and use). It is just the almost total lack of functionality that makes it a toy instead of a tool.

Not those. Look for tablets by Motion Computing. We have a few of theirs at work for demos and POCs as well as a few others. Those are fully functional tablet PCs. We're running Windows 7 on ours at work right now.

    Read this in a comic:
"According to Sarah Palin, the new iPad isn't very absorbent."

    Nice.

Not a bad little device. Much better than the iPad at this point.

Being based on Android -- something not in the print article I read (it was a brief, to be fair) -- I think I'd rather have the knock-off. I don't like the Apple locked system. Android, however, could be much better.

From what I've seen Android is also a "locked system". Android users "root" their phones just like iPhone users "jailbreak" their phones. I always like to point out the fact that my Windows Mobile device comes unlocked by default (something WM7 may remove it seems).

    @ rallynavvie
    He said "Based" on android...
Even back when the first iphone came out, the (chinese?) knockoffs actually had more features and worked better, you could do more and had more apps, and you were not locked into what they (apple) wanted you to be locked into....under their control.... $$$

I read a few of articles in a few different mag's, one was even time magazine, they had a big multiple page article on it.

I think i still have it lying around somewhere....
