I did read the stickies at the top, but VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod do not cooperate with my computer (they always output videos that have no/blocky image with out-of-sync audio). What I'm looking to do is hardsub some Advanced SubStation Alpha subs into some HD videos. Each video is about 700mb and I don't want to lose any of the quality. I normally use a program called XviD4PSP for standard-definition videos, and it works great. But When I encode high-quality, high-resolution videos, the colors tends to look more washed-out. What I'm looking for is a program that will hardsub .ass subs (obviously with the fonts/styles intact) to 720p .avi files without losing any quality. Does anybody here know of any programs like that? Thank you.

You do realize that to keep the same quality when you re-encode to add the hard subs, the file will need to be MUCH larger?

    You might try Handbrake.

Your audio sync problem with VD sounds like VBR audio or a missing audio offset.

Well, are there settings I can use in XviD4PSP or any other program that will allow me to keep the file size around the same area, without too much quality loss? The filesize is already monstrous for something as small as a 24 minute anime.

About all I can advise is to try a short representative sample clip from the video and try different encoding settings to see how much quality loss is acceptable. Or if SSA subs aren't a must, use .srt subs and don't re-encode the video. Or try a different video format like H.264 that may have higher compression and smaller filesizes and you may be able to keep the quality and the .ssa subs with the same or smaller filesize.
