Please can you help? I have an MV5i purchased 2003, with some not extensive use it has started developing some intermittent problems. The first time I noticed it, there was something wrong with the quality of the playback (mosaic). I cleaned the heads a few times and all seemed to work fine again. Unfortunately, the problem appeared again, this time also the recording was mosaic. Tried again with the cleaner. Worked fine for a few minutes, but now it does not record properly OR play back, it is always mosaic. Any help appreciated

    Regards

using old tape? maybe buy a couple new ones and try them after another head cleaning. i recommend only buying one brand/model of tape and sticking with it, as there are problems that can occur when different tape lube gets mixed on the heads.

Thanks for that, but have bought new cleaning tape, still had un-opened new recording tape from a while back. Tried new cleaner followed by new recording tape - result still the same. Started getting "REMOVE CASSETTE" message, looked up in instruction book implies moisture getting in. Looked on net about this and found there seems to be a problem with manufacture of "CCD" chip from sony which alot of cameras from different providers employ and the same problem with them. I have contacted Cannon direct and wait for reply. This may effect other people too, if anyone else has had same problem OR knows of anything else that could cause this please add to this thread

Have had camera back from FREE repairs because Canon had a call back since 2004 for this particular fault, this call back will now end April 2010. Camera works great
