What's the least expensive software with video scopes and a waveform monitor like Sony Vegas for making sure you have your capturing input levels set right?

    TIA.

Enosoft DV Processor - freeware for non-commercial use.

Safesurfer, thanks for the reply. Looks like I should have been bit more specific about my needs. I will be capturing analog video through a capture card via s-video with HuffyUV. It looks like Enosoft DV processor requires input from a DV Camcorder (probably through firewire) or existing video captured using a DV encoder. Not the way I planned on doing things, but thanks for your reply.

I think I've seen this from Avisynth scripts. Any input, shows waveform that can be loaded by VirtualDub, if not mistaken. I use and old copy of Vegas now, for this task, forget what I used to do eons ago. (I'm still mostly a Premiere user, however.)

I say look for an older version of full Vegas (Pro) on eBay. Version 5up are good as new for SD. 6 would be optimal if on a budget. I skipped 7. Versions 8 and 9 mostly address HDV and other HD formats.

There are less dodgy copies of software on Amazon. I see Vegas 6 on Amazon for $150.
I'd still look at the Avisynth route, for free.

  7. the avisynth functions you could use would be videoscope() and histogram()

Wow. By 7:20pm, LS, the Vegas on Amazon was already unavailable. And ebay is looking pretty thin also, and its pretty hard to trust ebay for this.

I may have to just figure out Avisynth, although I'd prefer a nice GUI. I also have trevlac's old color tools for Vdubmod, but I was never 100% sold on their accuracy.

    Hmmmm....

I liked trevlac, but he was more into theory than practical application.

@poisondeathray - thanks for the info.

@danno78 - thanks for the link.

@LS - well it's good to see that some of the "veterans" like you and edDV are still around spreading your knowledge.
