    The application successfully creates /Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/ and installs 'mencoder', 'mpeg2enc', 'mplayer'. However:

    1. On relaunch the 'ffmpeg components self-installer' window state that 'mencoder' and 'mplayer' are not installed. But they are installed, 14.4 MB in boh cases;

    2. The red 'quit' button (top left corner of the application window) is missing;

    3. On run 'Encode' the error message '/Library/Application Support/ffmpegX/mencoder: cannot execute binary file' is received (the execute flag is set however);

    4. The 'ffmpegX Progress' window has no red 'quit' button.

    Has anyone else met these difficulties or have I done something silly in the installation?

    The check at launch time found that the installed files are not the correct files. Don't point the Locate buttons to the .zip file, but unzip the archive and point to the files in the expanded folder.

    See above.

    This is normal. The app was programmed that way. Use Cmd-Q or the menu bar to quit.

    Ah -- of course. That's fixed it. Many thanks indeed.
