    Hi there.

I just got myself a JVC Everio GZ-MS120SEK video camera.

It can hold 2 SD cards and when i connect the camera to the computer the files are .MOD files. Has anyone heard of them.

I used Imovie in my college on an Imac and it allowed me to import from camera which converted the files to .mov but as I dont always have access to my college iMac's I was trying to get editing software for the house.

I really really loved how simple iMovie was, and i loved the fact i could import from camera.

I have tried windows movie maker and adobe premier 6 which both only allow me to import from camera if it is a DV cam (which is it not)

Is there any other software (freeware or payware) that can import from camera without having to be a DV cam?

    Cheers to anyone in advance.
    Dave

If you want to use Windows Movie Maker google SDcopy this app will export your MOD files to wherever you want on your HDD as .MPG files. Then install FFdShow (for mpeg2 decoding) & AC3Filter. - now WMM will open them for editing - Simple.

check here for more info: http://camcorder.jvc.com/tutorials.jsp
    and for Imovie: http://support.jvc.com/consumer/support/support.jsp?pageID=1&item=13#169

    Cheers

  3. Dave,

The previous post lends some good suggestions. Read up a little on the format http://www.masternewmedia.org/news/2008/06/12/how_to_convert_mod_video.htm and you'll find that they are easy files to work with.

    Good luck, Mike

I've been using Everios for years: rename the .mod extension to .mpg, (save it to a file) open it with the mpg editor of your choice.

I prefer TDA3, I can add menus, use the AC3 audio as encoded, and not change the quality of the original.

Some of the software that shipped with everios and Hitachi dvd cams kinda sucked.
