If you're not looking to re-encode (Tivo records at 480x480 - not 720x480, which requires reencoding) VideoRedo works very well.

If the video is already 720x480 or HD quality DirectShowDump can convert (like for me, .tivo to .mpg) for use with an authoring program (I use TDA3).

It would depend on the resolution used by your DVR. Not certain what that would be - you'd have to use gspot or another program to find out. I did look up your DVD, and it's HD - my tivo is not, and records at 480x480 - which nearly everything except for VideoRedo rejects or reencodes the video during the process...which takes a ton of time.

You may be able to work with HD with a divx editing software.

I read the posts in this link, and although i am new to this, and need laymen instructions, it looks like it can't be done with a standard digital recording, i could be wrong.

It seems like the biggest obstacle here is your self-imposed inexperience. After 3 years as a member here, you should have checked out the "What is..." section to the left, especially the glossary. There's really no "newb" excuse at this point, especially since a very large part of this site in encode (and re-encoding).

Even a simple search for 8300HD returned a ton of results on this subject.

Yep. That would be the simplest way to go about it. You could also get a capture card for your pc and get the video that way.

Off topic but if you ever get to the point that you need to replace that dvr you should consider getting a real TiVo. Those can do a direct lossless transfer from the dvr to your computer. I've got a TiVo HD that I use for over the air capturing and I love it.

I'd look at something from hauppage. I've got an old hauppage pvr150 that caps analog and does a great job. You could find one of those pretty cheap used from somewhere like ebay. Or look at one of the newer hauppage cards that can record analog and also digital channels.

Suggesting a search and search terms, plus specific reference reading is very constructive. Ignoring all of the abundant information that this site has to offer isn't.

You are not offering nothing, your more interested in criticizing and insulting, therefore your suggestion is worth crap. Nice to be behind a computer screen isn't it slick? Maybe we can talk about it one day. Till then don't offer anything constructive or otherwise. Thanks.

Actually I always take the time to look over a site prior to asking questions that can be easily solved by myself. I've found taking a little extra time to look for sometime is always the best bet. If something is that important to me to get resolved. I don't think anyone means to "give you a hard time". We just offer you the valuable tools, and guides that are out there on the site if you will take the time to search. And I've found many of the large search engines are great to find stuff. Yeah, it's lots of weeding out and time taken....but that's what it's all about. Good luck and welcome to the site

Why do you internet tough guys always go down that road? I offered constructive criticism and react as if I physically harmed a family member. Ironically, you embody exactly what you accuse of me. You make threats from behind a keyboard and anonymity.

You need to relax. One peaceful way of doing so is to search through this forum for information regarding your problem (the 8300HD, not your attitude).
