  1. Hello there,

I was trying to use the wipeout filter I found here in this thread

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/316418-VirtualDub-Remove-Region-plug-in-problem?p=1...=1#post1958376

the thing is...I'm new to virtualdub so I want to know how do I make this filter effect appear for a certain period of time then it ends without appearing through the whole video file. I don't know how to use keyframes, I've tried reading the help fils but I couldn't find what I was looking for so I hope I can find an answer here. Thanks in advance

    Hi Ahmed,

In order to have the blur box appear at a certain time, open the filter dialog and on the preview window make sure the frame slider is at frame 0. Set the strength slider to 0. Now move the frame slider to the frame where you want the box to appear. Hit the "Jump" "Add Key" button and set the strength slider to the amount you want and position and size the box using the position and size pads in the dialog box. Hit OK on the dialog box. Now when you hit play the box will appear at the frame you set the "Jump" key frame. You can make the box move by moving the frame slider in the filter preview window, hitting one of the Add Key buttons and moving and sizing the box. The box will now move and size from the previous key frame to your current key frame. If you want to turn off the blur box at a certain frame, just move the frame slider to the frame you want it turn off at and hit one of the Add Key buttons and set the Strength slider to 0.

Let me know here if you're still having problems.

Just finished following your instructions and they worked perfectly, thanks for the quick response and thanks for the filter, you did an amazing job making it

    Hello Khaver,

First of all thank you for this useful VD filter.
I have tried it and have managed to add box blurs. However, after adding 2 blurs in the work list, I can't add any more, nor can I resize the blur.
Is this intended behaviour or is it a bug? I have upgraded VD to 1.9.8, but that made no difference

When you say the "work list" do you mean the list of key frames? When you move the frame slider to the frame you want to add a key frame on, you have to either click back on the wipeout config dialog then click the add key frame button you want to insert or after moving the frame slider, click the add key frame button you want to insert 2 times (the dialog has to have focus before a click on one of the buttons works). In order to change the size, you have to have the frame slider on one of the key frames.

Ah, that's the clue for adding a 2nd or 3rd etc. blur box. What confused me was that for the first blur box clicking the add key button once was enough. For the following boxes I have to click twice. No problem now that I know it.
By the way, clicking an add key frame button twice was the only way to make it happen. Making the dialog active and then clicking an add key button once did not work.

This filter is mighty cool! Now that I seem to get the hang of it, it's great fun.

One question: what's the difference between Linear and Smooth?

Thanks for the heads up on the "click twice" bug. I'll look into it and see if I can fix it. I'll post here a link to the file if/when I get it fixed.

Linear will move the box in a straight line from key frame to key frame. Smooth will sort of move the box along a spline path between key frames.

  8. thanks for khaver's work!

but i've met some trouble when i test the filter in VD like this:when i click preview button and open the window, the blur box is centered at the frame.and x /y is set to zero.
when i pull the x and y slider, the blur box can just move to right and down, but it'll never go upon the center line or go right cross the middle line.another means is when x or y changes to negative, the box will not move.so i just can move the blur box in the quarter area right and down corner of the frame.

if anybody know why and how to fix it can tell to deal with?i've searched the net till now the wipeout filter maybe the most effective way for VD to moving mask.
    best wish.

This Wipeout filter really works pretty cool.
Indeed very nice work from the author Khaver

But i just wonder if there was any update (bugfix?) of this filter or does anyone know a similar (simple) good working filter for VirtualDub?

There seems to be no information at all about this filter except these 2 threads here on VideoHelp??

    The_Doman,

I realize there are bugs in this filter but I haven't had time to try and fix it yet. I'm not sure I'll ever get the time to fix it. I found an easier way to do it in Premiere since I wrote the filter so I don't use it anymore.

This forum is the only place I've uploaded the filter.

Of course I don't want (or dare) to complain.
Even with the few bugs the filter works great!

Sure i believe it can be done Premiere and more advanced editors, but for VirtualDub it seems there is no other tool like this one.

I found other interesting filters you created on the www.hv20.com forum but indeed there was nothing to be found about this little gem.

    Thanks again!

  12. Hi Khaver, I also just found this thing. Really nice, except for the bugs. If you aren't interested anymore in fixing it how about making the source available so other people (maybe me) can work on the bugs? Or maybe you are able to fix the negative coordinate problem? I also found that it doesn't save its parameters correctly.

Here's the source code. I don't comment much and it was a modification of someone elses plugin so you might have trouble following what I attempted to do, but, please have at it.

  14. Thanks a lot. Here's a corrected version. It only fixes the negative offsets. Saving parameters in the .vdf file I haven't touched yet.

  15. Alright, here's a version which saves its parameters for batch mode (File->Save Processing Settings). This should have removed the most serious problems leaving you with a usable version I hope. Maybe I'll improve the interface in a future version.
