    Use instead a better dvd to avi divx/xvid converter that does everything for you. Like autogk, staxrip, fairuse wizard. It will autocrop, resize, etc.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply i will check them out,
    what about for converting from xvid into divx as some xvid movie/tv episode the playback on my dvd player gets juddery in certain scenes, i worked out by converting them into dvix solves the problem.
    Some advise with using tmpgenc would be cool though as i am familier with this programme.

    Thanks

    Toucano what your trying to do is convert a dvd into .avi right?
    Well in that case what you have to is

    Open Tmpgenc
    Start a new project
    Source Wizard
    DVD-VIDEO, DVD-VR or DVD-RAM and hit NEXT (locate your dvd and click OK)
    Hit NEXT on the new windows
    Now on the new window DONT TICK any box just hit OK
    When Clip addition shows up just tick on OK
    FORMAT and Select AVI file output and hit selectnow THE settings are like these:
    VIDEO= uncompressed RGB
    AUDIO= 48000 hz, 16bit, 2ch (stereo)
    Output stream type= video and audio
    Interlace settings= Interlace ( frames=1)

    NOW ENCODE
    Hope this works for you CHEERS!

    Are you sure you need to re-encode? DivX and Xvid are actually fairly similar; it could be just a matter of figuring out what your player doesn't like about the Xvid AVIs. Some details, like packed bitstream, can be changed without having to re-encode.

    Run one of the 'problem' Xvid AVIs through GSpot or MediaInfo (in Tree View) and post a screenshot of the resulting information here (GSpot) or cut and past the information (MediaInfo). Blank out the file/folder information, if you prefer. And, mention the name of your player. Maybe someone here can tell why the player doesn't like your videos.

    You might also install AutoGK, with the ESS option enabled. It's what I use and recommend for re-encoding AVIs to work with my own DivX/Xvid-capable DVD players.

    well if i can et away without re-encoding that would be cool,
    the playback problem i a having is the video stutters,
    for example it would be an outside scenewih wind blowing through grass or somethig like that and the video will stutter
    and it drives me crazy, maybe the best way is to buy a new dvd player,
    but it only seems to happen with some Xvid, and when there is like too much happenin in the scene i guess
    any ideas ?

    Thanks again.
