  1. For some reason, when I set the time in windows XP, even with the correct time zone set (Pacific time) and check for Daylight Savings Time, it still shows one hour ahead when I send an email. For example, if it is 10AM, and I send an email in gmail, it will show 9AM. Any idea?

  2. Are you sure gmail has the correct time zone?
Maybe they have a setting for DST or they haven't adjusted it.

Neither do I, if your PC shows the correct time then the problem is gmail.

  5. This was with the recent daylight savings time. Usually our computers auto detect and change the time accordingly.

I tried the same with my laptop that runs Win 7 and it works fine with gmail. It must be some setting in XP. I just cannot figure it out.

  7. It is weird that you need updates. Isn't XP equipped to automatically update time?

Yes, Gmail does have a timezone setting. Here's info on how to change it from Gmail help.

The wrong time is listed for messages

If the time displayed on your messages does not match your system clock, there may be an issue with the time zone listed in your Google Account settings.
To fix this issue please follow these steps:
    1. Visit https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageAccount?service=mail.
    2. Find the Personal Settings and click Edit next to the 'Email addresses' section.
    3. For the Time Zone field, choose the time zone that matches your location.
    4. Click Save.
    5. Sign out of Gmail and sign back in.
If this doesn't resolve your issue, your system clock may be set incorrectly. To set your Date and Time Properties in Windows, please follow these steps:
    1. Double-click the time in your taskbar to open the Date & Time Properties menu.
    2. From the Date & Time tab, verify that the appropriate month, day, and year are selected.
    3. Click Apply to save any changes you make.
    4. From the Time Zone tab, verify that your time zone is selected. If the time zone in which you are located is not displayed, select your time zone from the drop-down menu.
    5. Verify that the box beside Automatically adjust clock for daylight savings changes is checked.
    6. Click OK.

  9. Thanks for the reply Safesurfer. I tried the instructions. But for some reason, it does not matter if I change the time zone to PST, MST or EST, it does not change the time sent when I send email. It's always one hour ahead. The patch didnt work either. I'm guessing it is something to do with Windows XP.
