I tried to compile a DVD project using DVD-Lab Pro 1.53, but I keep getting the message that the software is expired. Are there any alternatives in which I can still burn DVDs with selectable menus, multiple audio tracks, and subtitles?

    Sure:
    DVDAuthorgui
    GUI for dvdauthor.
if your sources are already dvd compliant you can use avs2dvd to creat a dvd with menus, multiple audio and subs

I highly suggest Ulead DVD Workshop 2.
    - Guide to use DVDWS2.
    - Buy it for huge discount, currently $49.

DVDWS2 is super simply to use, but still has pro features and power.
DVD-Lab is powerful, but a bit of a nuisance in the user-friendly department.
Those freebie DVDAuthor tools will work, but are a pain in the butt to work with.

I looked into that and the $49.oo price at B&H is good til 12/31/2010.
It appears that Ulead DVD Workshop 2 is discontinued and is only supported by Win2K and XP.

Ulead DVD Workshop works in Vista and Windows 7 perfectly fine -- I use it here.
The program was originally $300-500, being a pro app.
When Corel bought Ulead, that ended the dev on DVDWS3, but so what? DVDWS2 works better than most new 2010 programs!

for simple menu/audio/subs creation those freebies are no more complicated than your suggestion, doing something more advanced its difficult but for something as simple as menus/audio/subs those freebies are just the "perfect" thing.

or he can use avs2dvd with the automated menu creation or dvdflick that creates menus etc altough sources must be dvd compliant so that avs2dvd or dvdflick doesnt recode them and just creates the menus and author

Were you using a demo version ? If you have paid for DVDLab then it should not have expired. You may want to try upgrading to 1.6 (the last update to the 1.x version) and using your key to re-register it.
