  1. Sorry if this isn't in the correct forum - my 1st post.

Only a handful of my burned dvd+r discs will play in my PS3. Is there an update I'm missing, file conversion needed, bad luck? Please help!
    FACTS:
    • PS3 plays all store-bought dvd discs fine
    • the Sony and HP brand burned dvd+r discs all play on my HP laptop fine
    • the Sony and HP brand burned dvd+r discs all play on my Toshiba dvd player fine
    • none of the HP burned dvd discs will play on the PS3
    • only some of the Sony burned dvd discs play on the PS3
    • PS3 recognizes all of the discs and seemingly tries to launch them
    • every one of my dvd+r disc has been burned and finalized using my Panasonic DMR-ES20 dvd recorder

First off, i don't have a PS3 or the pana unit you have. My first guess would is the DVD+R booktype. Insert the DVD+R in your laptop and check the bitsetting with https://www.videohelp.com/tools/Nero_CD-DVD_Speed .If the DVD+Rs that do playback in the PS3 have Booktype DVD Video, than the issue is the ones that don't have a DVD+R booktype. If that is the issue, you're probably SOL cause i doubt the pana has an option to change booktype (but i don't know). Good luck & Welcome.

VirtualDoobMon's suggestion is quite reasonable. Also, it could be the media itself. HP is a low quality brand and Sony can vary quite a bit. Some Sony DVDs sold in North America are made by the very best manufacturer. Others are just cheap crap. I generally suggest that people avoid Sony because most people don't know how to tell the difference.

The only consistently high quality DVDs sold in North America are by Taiyo Yuden (you'll have to order these on the internet) and Verbatim. That's it.

I use only Verbatim and have yet to have a disc not play in the PS3. My only real issues with the video handling of the PS3 is the region lock on DVDs (I have a lot of Region 1 discs that I can't play with it) and external subs handling.

    Use better blank discs: http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
If already using Verbatim or TY, then it could be a dying laser in the drive.
