  2. Modulator? You need a tuner. If you have analog cable and an old VCR sitting around you can use the tuner in the VCR.

  3. How exactly do you have the modulator hooked into the tv?

Also, from what you're desscrbing, I'm not sure you can get it to work.

Does your tv have svideo and/or composite inputs?

Are you using cable without a cable box? If so, can you get a cable box and go svideo or composite into the back of the tv?

If you are strictly cable and no cable box, jagabo is right. Find an old vcr and loop the cable through the box.

You'll have to change the channel through the VCR vs. the tv, a minor inconvenience, but it can work.

  5. Maybe he's trying to use a 75 ohm coax to 300 ohm antenna lead adapter? That will only get channels 2-13. The rest of the analog cable channels are on non-broadcast frequencies.

You need to connect something with a tuner to the TV because the only connection to the TV's tuner is now broken. A VCR or DVD recorder would work if they have a tuner. (Some newer VCRs and DVD recorders don't have a tuner because they are made to be used with a cable box.)

Most DVD recorders have S-Video out. Most VCRs don't have S-Video out, but if yours does, you should use it. Otherwise, you need to use a yellow RCA composite connection instead. In addition to the video connection you choose, you also need to connect the red and white RCA jacks to your TV for audio.

If the VCR or DVD recorder has to share a connection with something else, a video switcher could be useful. This is one example http://www.provantage.com/philips-sws2104w-27~7PHC906F.htm You can find them at your local KMart, Walmart, or even some drugstores, if you don't already have something like this.

[edit] I just saw you other post. https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/318425-antenna-cable-connector-broke-off-back-of-t-v The person who gave you that advice must not have fully understood your situation.

Another possibility is to get digital cable service instead, if it is available where you are. The cable company will supply you with a converter box that replaces your TV's tuner. Sometimes the cost of switching over is minimal and the converter box is free, but you need to check. Most of the converter boxes for non-high definition service only have composite outputs (yellow for video, red and white for audio).

I have a DVD player and Tivo connected via a Philips automatic switch - it does not have an RF modulator, but switches automatically to the active input. I believe that I caught it on sale at WalMart for $25
