hi,
I have a really hard time editing hd and full hd clips in Sony vegas pro 9.
When i try to edit it just runs at 4-5 fps in the preview screen.
I edit .mov or avchd clips.
It runs fine when editing sd.

Dual core isn't fast enough for avchd or hd .mov avc clips in vegas (even though they may play fine in media players), even a highly clocked i7 can be a bit sluggish
Many people resort to using cineform neoscene , but even then a dual core will be a bit slow
You can try adjusting the preview quality lower to help a bit -
You can't edit avchd smoothly with a dual core in vegas, especially not with your system. It might have been "powerful" a few years ago, but not now. If you had a newer generation i5 dual core, then you might be able to
But perhaps your friend is using hdv , not avchd. There are different kinds of "HD video" , and MPEG2 is definitely less resource intensive -

No way is your system fast enough. Time to either upgrade or hope Neoscene will permit you to edit with less CPU strain. The only drawback with Neoscene is that the resulting AVI files are going to take up a fair amount of disk space.
