I took a video of my son singing. It is quite clear but just a little on the dark side. I want to know how to lighten up this video and some others ? I am fairly computer illiterate but I want to learn more. Any help would be appreciated. The other videos are a bit dark because I only had a corner light on in the room while the video was being taken. You can see shadows and some clarity in these videos that I am also looking to lighten up. Thanks!

It is difficult to compensate for poor lighting. Any video "correction" will have tradeoff for noise or other artifacts. At the pro end one would need to mask the person of interest and apply filters only to the masked area.

Most likely your current editing software has levels correction filters. Virtualdub has basic image correction modes.

If you post a representative frame or two, we can show you what higher end applications could do.

  3. A short clip from the original video would be better than still shots. I think AsfBin will let you extract a short segment.
