I'll start by saying I have no idea what I am talking about.
In general I'm trying to take a file off of a dvd and record its contents back onto a Sony Handycam HDR-FX7 Mini DV.
If anybody knows how I could really use the help.

different formats. it's not easy but you could import the dvd/mpeg-2 into an editor and re-encode it back to HDV or DV and print it to tape. it will not be as good as what's on the dvd though.

So you're basically telling me that it's harder than Japanese Arithmetic. I've got Final Cut Pro, any way I can use it to aid in this process?

i'm not a mac user but maybe the steps would be similar. here's the way i would do it. use vob2mpeg on the dvd to extract the movie only as a single mpeg-2. import the mpeg-2 into editor(vegas for me, fcp for you). render to DVavi. 720x480 ntsc here, you? cut the video into 1 hour pieces if it longer than a tape. once it's back to DVavi either the editor or winDV to print back to tape on the camera over firewire.
