  1. ...I have a few questions. Should I purchase a P4 single processor OR a dual P3? Will the Dual processor help speed up the encoding process? What considerations should I make when purchasing hardware to optimise the encoding process? I am going to build this PC myself and want to make sure I get the most bang for my buck!!!

    Thanks for your help!!!!

  2. If you bought a dual P3 you should get double RAM. However if you bought an speed equivalent P4 you would save on RAM, and on the motherboard, it would also help because the next version of TMPGEnc and other programs will take advantage of the P4's SSE2 which reduces encoding time. I would opt for the P4.

    i would opt for a DVD-RW

that way you could have dvd quality

they are coming down in price

I understand DVD+RW is having major problems including that most drives on the market won't have support for +R

    and RAM isn't playable

  4. To answer the original question, It seems from speed postings here that for TMPGenc, dual processors can give a dramatic speed increase as it is truly multi-threaded. Whether this speed increase is cost-effective is more difficult to determine, with some good scrounging and older processors, perhaps a second-hand dual-proc board?

CCE only supports dual processor (Intel only) in some of the latest versions, I have not read any speed comparisons of this.

I have not personally tested dual-proc, but can attest that CCE gives much better results.
